In quick response to a request of Dr Keerthi Rathnayake, Director Kandy Teaching Hospital, Kandy to the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, 17 Corps of Engineer Services (CES) within six days converted the Ward No. 36 to a fully functional new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to exclusively treat COVID-19 infected patients, and formally handed it over to the Hospital Director on Sunday (10).

A total of 533 individuals who underwent quarantining at Army-managed Punani (75), Kandakadu (62), Vidattapalei (298) Iyyakachchi (80), Diyatalawa (05) Hotel Dolphin (01), Navy-managed Nipuna Boossa (12) Quarantine Centres after conduct of PCR tests on them left for their residences today (9) with Quarantine Certificates, a media statement issued by the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated.

A total of 286 individuals who underwent quarantining at Army-managed Punani (101), Kandakadu (36), Katukeliyawa (31), Navy-managed Sampur (98) and Oluvil (20) Quarantine Centres after conduct of PCR tests on them left for their residences today (8) with Quarantine Certificates, a media statement issued by the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated.

A total of 197 more individuals, including students and state officials were flown to Sri Lanka early this morning (7) from Dubai by a Sri Lankan Flight and they all were taken to tri service-managed Quarantine Centres (QCs) for quarantine process, a media statement issued today (7) by the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated.

Upon a Court ruling from the Polonnaruwa Magistrate on Wednesday (06) 25 drug addicts who had completed the quarantine process at the Army-managed Galkanda Quarantine Centre were admitted to the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addicts in Kandakadu.
