The funeral of late Col N Gunathilake (Rtd) USP who passed away on 29 October 2017 at the age of 74 was held at the “Udumulla Crematorium” amidst full Military Honours on 01 November 2017 at 1600 hrs. He joined the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as a direct enlisted Engineering Professional in the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on 14 May 1971.After completion of his basic military training he was posted to the then Works Services Sri Lanka Engineers.

The 3rd Engineer Services Regiment celebrated its Unit Day on 11 March 2017 at 3rd Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters , Minneriya . Lt Col , N W P S M Perera CES , the Commanding Officer of 3 ESR received Brig K A P J Ratnayake Lsc the Director General Engineer Services and Col Comdt CES who graced the occasion as the chief guest and a guard turnout was accorded in honour of Col Comdt CES. To mark the Unit Day , a tree sapling was planted and the newly built Other Ranks\' Mess was declared open by the Col Comdt. The Unit Day celebration was followed by a series of entertainment events, sports activities , an All Ranks Lunch and a Musical Evening. A large gathering of Senior Officers , Officers , Other Ranks of CES participated in this event.

The 8h Engineer Services Regiment (Vol) celebrated its 11th Unit Day on 24 April 2017 at its Headquarters in Hokandara. A guard turnout was accorded to Lt Col R M D Rathnayake CES, the Commanding Officer of 8 ESR (V). A Mango sapling was planted by the CO to mark the 11th Unit Day. The Unit Day celebration was followed by entertainment events, sports activities, an All Ranks Lunch and a Musical Evening.

Lt Col K Wirasinghe USP CES the CO 7 ESR (V) received Brigadier K A P J Ratnayake Lsc the Director Engineer Services and Col Comdt CES who graced the occasion as the chief guest and a guard turnout was accorded in honour of Col Comdt CES . To mark the Unit Day , a Nutmeg (Sadikka) sapling was planted and the newly built Warrant Officers Sergeants Mess Building was declared open by the Col Comdt CES . The Unit Day celebration was followed by a series of entertainment events, sports activities , an All Ranks Lunch and a Musical Evening. A large gathering of Senior Officers , Officers , Other Ranks of CES participated in this event.
