A comprehensive humanitarian donation programme was successfully conducted to support the people affected by recent adverse weather conditions in the areas of Ditwah in Elkaduwa, Leli Ambe, and Hangarawatta. The initiative was organized by the Kumbuka South Purana Sri Maha Viharastha Tharuna Bauddha Sansadaya, demonstrating their continued commitment to community welfare and national service.
This programme was coordinated under the guidance of the Centre Commandant of the Gajaba Regiment and Ven. Mugunawela Anuruddha Thero, Secretary General of All Island Buddha Sasana Council, whose leadership ensured the smooth planning and execution of all activities. Valued at approximately Rs. 1.2 million, the donation included:
a. 300 dry ration packs,
b. Clothing items,
c. Sanitary materials,
d. Bottled water, and
e. Other essential household requirements.
These items were distributed among families severely affected by floods and landslides in the region, offering much-needed relief during a challenging period.
The Commanding Officer and troops of the 8th Gajaba Regiment provided vital assistance throughout the programme, contributing to transportation, logistics, and the distribution of items. Their dedicated support played a significant role in ensuring that aid reached the affected communities efficiently and respectfully.
This collective effort stands as a testament to the strong collaboration between religious institutions, military personnel, and local communities in times of need. It not only provided immediate relief but also strengthened the bonds of unity, compassion, and social responsibility.
