The Gajaba Regimental Centre hosted a vibrant farewell parade and grand dinner on 25 June 2025 to honour the 66th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and the 14th Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment, Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc. He received the ceremonial farewell salute at the Home of Gajaba on the day before of his retirement, marking the conclusion of a distinguished and illustrious military career spanning over 36 years of dedicated service to the Sri Lanka Army.
The day’s proceedings commenced with a solemn floral tribute at the Regimental Monument, followed by a traditional Guard Turnout to pay respect to the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment. A floral tribute was also placed at the statue of the late Major General Wijaya Wimalaratne RWP RSP VSV USP psc, highlighting the deep historical and emotional significance of the event. The grand ceremonial parade was conducted in accordance with the highest military traditions. A group photograph, a symbolic sapling planting and an All Ranks tea were held to mark the occasion, signifying growth, legacy and camaraderie.
Later that evening, a Grand Farewell Dinner was held at the Officers’ Mess of the Gajaba Regiment. This dignified event provided an opportunity for officers to express their gratitude and pay tribute to the legacy of Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, celebrating his leadership, service and achievements with deep respect.
