The Gajaba Regimental Centre hosted a vibrant Farewell Parade and Dinner Night on 21 February 2025 in honour of Brigadier Janaka Rathnayake, marking the conclusion of his distinguished military career spanning over 36 years.
The ceremony commenced with a customary Guard Turnout, followed by a floral tribute at the statue of the late Major General Vijaya Wimalarathne RWP RSP VSV USP psc. The retiring veteran Keterian was then honoured with a colourful parade at the regimental parade ground, recognizing his dedicated and outstanding service to the Gajaba Regiment. Following the parade, an All Ranks tea was held at the Corporals’ Club, where he engaged in warm and friendly conversations with those in attendance.
Later, Brigadier Janaka Rathnayake and his family were invited to the office of the Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment, Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc. During the meeting, Major General Wickramasinghe commended the retiring senior officer for his unwavering dedication and exemplary service in various challenging roles, both during the war against terrorism and in the post-war period. He also acknowledged the invaluable support provided by Brigadier Rathnayake’s family throughout his career.
The farewell events concluded with a grand Farewell Dinner Night at the Officers’ Mess. Members of the Regimental Council, executive members of the Gajaba Seva Vanitha Branch, the Centre Commandant, Senior Officers and Officers along with their spouses participated for the event to pay tribute to the legacy of the outgoing Senior Officer.
