CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE ARMY HONOURED IN A FELICITATION CEREMONY AT HOME OF GAJABA

A grand felicitation ceremony was held on 21 March 2025 at the Gajaba Regimental Centre, Saliyapura, to honour Major General M G W W W M C B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, upon his prestigious appointment as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.

Upon his arrival at the Regimental Centre, the Chief of Staff was accorded a dignified Guard Turnout at the main entrance, signifying the Regiment’s deep respect for his exemplary service. As a mark of reverence, he then paid floral tribute to the statue of the late Major General W I V K M Wimalarathne RWP RSP VSV USP psc, the visionary founding father of the Regiment.

Following this solemn tribute, the Chief of Staff was honoured with a meticulously organized Guard of Honour. He then posed for a group photograph with fellow officers, capturing the momentous occasion. To commemorate this significant milestone, the Chief of Staff planted a sapling within the Regimental Centre, a gesture symbolizing growth and the enduring legacy of the Gajaba Regiment.

Thereafter, he engaged in a cordial interaction with officers and other ranks at the All Ranks’ Tea Party held at the Other Ranks’ Mess, fostering camaraderie and unity among the regimental fraternity.

Following the military formalities, the Chief of Staff addressed Senior Officers and Officers at the Multi-Functional Hall, Regimental Officers’ Mess. During his address, he provided valuable insights on key elements essential for professional excellence.

Concluding the day’s ceremonial proceedings, the Chief of Staff formally inaugurated the newly refurbished indoor badminton court at the Regimental Gymnasium. In the presence of Regimental Council Members, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks, he unveiled the commemorative plaque and executed the inaugural serve, symbolizing the official commencement of sporting activities on the new courts.

The event was a fitting tribute to Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe’s distinguished service and leadership, reinforcing the Gajaba Regiment’s deep rooted traditions of honour, unity, and excellence.
