Sri Lanka Armoured Corps bid farewell to its elite Cavalryman, Major General P A M Peiris RSP USP psc on 14 September 2024. The former General Officer Commanding of 22 Infantry Division has received a salute on his retirement at the end of more than 34 years of unblemished, dedicated service to our nation and heartfelt tribute to a career marked by exemplary leadership, unwavering commitment, and significant contributions to the military and the community.
The day's programme commenced with the arrival on Major General Anil Peiris and he was welcomed by the Lieutenant Colonel R K K Paragahathanthree psc, the Commanding Officer of the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment following a Guard Turnout. The Colourful Guard of Honour was reviewed by the outgoing Major General Anil Peiris, accompanied by the Parade Commander together with Brigadier A P C R Premathilake RSP USP ndc, Centre Commandant and Brigadier A A D P Kulathilaka USP ndc psc, Commander, Armoured Brigade in accordance with military traditions.
An address of All-Ranks by the outgoing senior officer and All-Ranks tea culminated the day’s 1st stage proceedings. Mrs Sanjeewani Peiris, former treasurer of Armour Ladies Club also attended the ceremony. At the end of the events, the outgoing Major General Anil Peiris was awarded a street line honour by Officers and Other ranks of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps.
The day's events were also marked with a Farewell Dinner hosted in honour of the outgoing Major General Anil Peiris by the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and all Officers at the Cavalry Mess with their spouses. Major General P A M Peiris RSP USP psc commented in his speech at the Farewell Dinner, that extending his heartfelt gratitude for the generous assistance offered in many ways by all Officers and Other Ranks of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, during his military career.
As a token of appreciation, Major General Anil Peiris was presented with the "GENERAL'S JUG" by the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps Major General MS Devapriya USP ndc symbolizing the gratitude of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, for years of service.
