Transition of Command: 5 Reconnaissance Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps

The 5 Reconnaissance Regiment bid farewell to its 15th Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel A K Gamage psc, in a heartfelt ceremony that underscored his impactful leadership and dedicated service.

The day's proceedings was included a Guard Turnout, a glamarous parade, and an All-Rank tea party, where Lt Col A K Gamage psc took the opportunity to address the troops, expressing his gratitude for their unwavering support during his tenure.

On 3rd September 2024, Lt Col K D S Nandiyasena USP psc formally took over command as the 16th Commanding Officer of the 5 Reconnaissance Regiment, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, in a ceremony that underscored the regiment's rich traditions.

The event commenced with a Guard Turnout, reflecting the regiment's deep respect for military customs, followed by the symbolic planting of a sapling, heralding the dawn of new leadership. In his address to the troops, Lt Col Sanjaya Nandiyasena discussed the paramount importance of discipline, rigorous training, and unity within the regiment. He strongly emphasized that ‘the fundamental role of the military is to fight the war or prepare for the war,ensuring that the regiment is always ready to lead where it matters’.

The day’s proceedings concluded with a tea party, where officers and other ranks had the opportunity to convey their best wishes to their new Commanding Officer as he assumed this critical role, committed to upholding the regiment's legacy and mission.
