Major General M. S. Devapriya USP ndc assumed duties as the 15th Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps on 26 August 2024, in a ceremony held at the Regimental Centre- Rock House Camp. The day began with a warm welcome by the Commanding Officer of the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment at the entrance of the Home of Armour, followed by an inspection of the Guard Turnout.
A colourful Guard of Honour was presented to Major General Sumith Devapriya to mark his appointment as the Colonel Commandant. He officially assumed his duties with the blessing of Buddhist priests in the presence of his family members and Council Members. As part of the tradition, the newly appointed Col Comdt planted a sandalwood sapling as a symbol of remembrance.
In his first address to the Other Ranks, the Colonel Commandant highlighted the importance of professional development, operational readiness, and maintaining high standards of discipline, which have been upheld throughout the regiment’s history.
While addressing the officers at the Officers mess, the Colonel Commandant outlined his scope of work, emphasizing the importance of professionalism, Esprit de Corps, and maintaining high standards of discipline. And also he highlighted the need for teamwork, innovation, and clear communication, while also stressing the welfare of the troops and the balance between professional duties and personal well-being.
Finally, he outlined his vision for the future of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, urging officers to lead with distinction and uphold the proud traditions of the regiment.
