On 13 August 2024, Major General S W M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, the Commander Security Forces (West) and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, undertook a significant dual visit to 5 Reconnaissance Regiment and 7(V) Regiment of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps.
At the 7(V) Regiment, Colonel Commandant was met with a formal Guard Turnout. During his visit, he highlighted the crucial role of soldiers and extended his best wishes for the regiment’s future. In a gesture of support for the educational development of soldiers' children, he presented 2,880 pencils to the regiment. The visit also featured an all-rank tea session, concluding with a note in the visitor’s book.
Later in the day, Colonel Commandant visited the 5 Reconnaissance Regiment, where he was again welcomed with a Guard Turnout. A group photograph with all ranks marked the occasion. In his address, he underscored the importance of maintaining high standards of discipline and financial management. He also presented 2,880 pencils to the children of soldiers, a donation facilitated by Mrs. Samangika Fernando, President of the Armour Ladies Club. The visit concluded with a lunch at the Officers' Mess, where an appreciative memento was given to the Colonel Commandant.
This series of visits underscored Colonel Commandant’s commitment to the welfare of the troops and their families, as well as his support for the educational advancement of their children.
