On 12 August 2024, Major General S W M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and Commander Security Forces (West), conducted a significant visit to both the Armoured Corps Training Centre (ACTC) and the 3 Armoured Regiment.
At the ACTC, Colonel Commandant was received with a Guard Turnout and warmly welcomed by Colonel A H R Hasantha RSP psc, the Commandant of the Training Centre. During his visit, the Colonel Commandant addressed all ranks, shared insights, and participated in a tea event organized for the officers and troops. The occasion was marked by the presentation of a commemorative memento and a group photograph. Additionally, Brigadier A P C R Premathilaka RSP USP ndc, Centre Commandant SLAC and Brigadier A A D P Kulathilaka USP ndc psc, Commander Armoured Brigade were present to honour the visit.
Following the ACTC visit, Colonel Commandant proceeded to the 3 Armoured Regiment, where he was similarly honoured with a Guard Turnout. His activities included a group photograph with the regiment's troops and a floral tribute at the regiment's monument to commemorate fallen war heroes. During his address to the troops, he offered words of encouragement and presented a collection of pencils to the children of the soldiers. In return, the 3 Armoured Regiment gifted him a commemorative plaque. The visit concluded with a tea party, fostering camaraderie and reflection among the participants.
Both visits underscored the Colonel Commandant’s commitment to strengthening the bonds within the Armoured Corps and honouring the legacy and contributions of its members.
