Cavalry family bid farewell to Major General G D Sooriyabandara USP on his retirment after 34 plus years of illustrious military career in the Army on 05 October 2022 at Rock House Army camp. Before his retirement, in conformity to military traditions, commemoration of War Heroes was done at War Heroes' monument at Kalattewa on 04 October 2022.
At the outset of the day’s ceremony, he was warmly welcomed and accorded with Guard Turnout and a parade followed by all Rank tea party. As a gesture of respect all Officers and Other Ranks, honoured him in a traditional street lining.
The day’s event terminated with a farewell dinner Night hosted in honour of the retiring Major General of Sri Lanka Army by officers of the Corps at the Cavalry Officers Mess. Major General G D Sooriyabandara USP in his speeches both at the regimental parade and farewell dinner, conveyed his heartfelt gratitude for the gracious assistance extended by all officers and Other Ranks throughout his military career.
