SRI LANKA ARMOURED CORPS MOVES ITS SENIOR NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS TO A NEW MESS AND THE COMMANDER OF THE ARMY ADDRESSED SLAC TROOPS

Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Opens its newly constructed Warrant Officers’ and Seargeants’ Mess which is a modern two-storeyed building comprised of a spacious dining hall, TV room, Kitchen, Bar, visitors’ room and accommodation facilities on 25 May 2023 during a fitting ceremony, headed by Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army.

The day's Chief Guest, Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu was warmly welcomed by Major General D B S N Bothota RWP RSP VSV USP psc, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps. The Commander of the Army was honoured by a Guard Turnout and then at the auspicious minute, the day's Chief Guest unveiled a plaque and cut a ribbon amidst ‘Seth Pirith’. After visiting the interior of the new building, the Commander of the Army left a few compliments in the SLAC WOs’ and Sgts’ Mess Visitors' Book. Next, the Army Chief planted a sapling in the venue at the invitation of the Colonel Commandant of the SLAC and made the day's event more memorable.

From the special dais in the SLAC playground, the Commander of the Army delivered his formal address to more than 750 troops of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps. During his troop address, the Commander stressed the importance of collective commitment. Moreover, the Commander highlighted the importance of discipline at all levels, maintenance of proper coordination for communication, and continuation of excellent dedicated services. Towards the culmination of the address, Major General D B S N Bothota RWP RSP VSV USP psc, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps presented a memento to the Commander of the Army and appreciated his visit to meet the troops.

As the final leg of the programme, the Commander of the Army has officially handed over the newly manufactured Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle to the regiment. Further, during the visit, the Commander of the Army gave his consent to provide a Basketball backstop Unit to the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps.
