SRI LANKA ARMOURED CORPS HOLDS INAUGURAL ORATION OF LIEUTENANT GENERAL DENZIL KOBBEKADUWA (LATE) RWP RSP VSV USP rcds psc

As directed by the Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, the inaugural Memorial Oration of Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa RWP RSP VSV USP rcds psc, organised by the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps held at Cavalry Mess on 09 August 2024 at the Home of Armour.

General G D H Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, graced the event as the Chief Guest alongside Mrs Laly Kobbekaduwa, the spouse of Late Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Chief of Defence Staff and Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army attended as a Guests of Honour.

The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, followed by a tribute to fallen War Heroes by laying of floral wreaths at the statue of late Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa and a two-minute silence in their honour.

Afterwards, Major General S W M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, Colonel Commandant of SLAC delivered the welcome speech and the audience was enlightened on the history and achievements of the SLAC by displaying a comprehensive video. Following the Regimental March, the Chief Guest addressed the gathering, emphasizing the legacy of the late Lieutenant General Kobbekaduwa and his invaluable contributions to the Nation.

A special video was played in memory of the late Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, adding a moving reminder of his service and sacrifice.

The highlight of the event was the memorial oration, delivered by Major General N R Marambe (Rtd) RWP RSP USP psc, who reflected on the leadership and courage of the late Lieutenant General.

The event concluded with the presentation of mementoes to the distinguished guests and a vote of thanks by the Brigadier A P C R Premathilaka RSP USP ndc, the Centre Commandant SLAC.

Former Tri-Forces Commanders, Serving and retired Senior Tri-Forces Officers, their spouses, state officials, relatives and friends also attended.
