Sri Lanka Armoured Corps proudly celebrated its 69th Anniversary on 15 December 2024 at the Rock House Camp with the presence of Mrs. Lali Kobbekaduwa, Retired & Serving Cavalry members. Major General M S Devapriya USP ndc, Quarter Master General, Army Headquarters, and Colonel Commandant SLAC, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The day’s proceedings commenced with a Guard Turnout and a floral tribute to the Statue of Father of the Corps, General Deshamanya D S Attygalle MVO idc psc D Litt. The Chief Guest was warmly welcomed by Major General P R Pathiravithana USAWC psc, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division along with Brigadier A P C R Premathilaka RSP USP ndc, Commander Armoured Brigade, and Brigadier K G M N Seneviratne USP, Centre Commandant SLAC.
The event's highlight was the glamorous Anniversary Parade to salute the Chief Guest by military traditions. During the proceedings, Major General Sumith Devapriya extended his heartfelt greetings to all serving and retired officers & other ranks as well as members of the civil staff who serve in the Corps. He awarded several trophies to the Regiments excelled in selected fields and 5 Reconnaissance Regiment clinched the Most Outstanding Regiment Trophy for the year 2024. Further, officers and other ranks who achieved the best in professional courses and sports events were awarded with Colonel Commandant’s Honour.
As part of the celebrations, the Veterans Association of SLAC awarded 6 scholarships to the much-needed children and the Armour Ladies Club awarded several book packs to the children of SLAC families to signify their Annual Book donation programme. Later, the Armoured Corps Journal - 2024 was officially launched.
Yet another memorable milestone in the proud history of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps was concluded with pride & happiness.
