SLAC COLONEL COMMANDANT ASSUMES DUTIES

Major General Sathyappriya Liyanage Military Liaison Officer of the Ministry of Defence assumed duties as the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps during a ceremony held at the Regimental Centre on Monday, 5th December 2016. Major General Sathyappriya Liyanage, the newly appointed Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps placed his signature on a formal document to signify the acceptance of the office amid religious observances and Pirith chanting as the auspicious minute struck in the presence of the staff at the Regimental Centre. On arrival at the Rock House Camp, the newly appointed Colonel Commandant was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant, Commander Armoured Brigade and the Commanding Officer 1st Reconnaissance Regiment. A ceremonial Guard Turnout presented by troops of 1st Reconnaissance Regiment greeted the new Colonel Commandant and the senior most serving cavalrymen. In keeping with military traditions, the Colonel Commandant accepted the regimental salute in a Guard of Honour accorded inclusive of Regimental Colours at the Rock House Camp premises in front of a cheerful gathering. Adding memories to the occasion, Major General Sathyappriya Liyanage planted a tree sapling in the premises and addressed troops at the auditorium. Terminating the event, the Colonel Commandant addressed the officers at the Cavalry Officers’ Mess.
