The well attended ceremony was conducted under the patronage of the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps.\r\n\r\nThe proceedings of the day commenced with the arrival of Major General M P Peiris RWP RSP USP ndc psc, Colonel Commandant of the Armoured Corps and the First Lady at 9.00 a.m. On his arrival, he inspected the guard mounted by the troops of the First Reconnaissance Regiment. \r\n\r\nThe military parade which followed soon after with the participation of the troops from all regiments of the Corps was one of the star attractions with the march showcasing the pride of the Corps with its fleet of Tanks passing in front of the daise saluting the Chief Guest. Everyone present was able to get a sense of the pride they endured throughout their service, and felt the power, fear and the pride of their life for a moment. \r\n\r\nThe Colonel Commandant in his speech emphasized the importance of National Security and urged all cavalrymen to focus on training and development to achieve professional competence. He also paid glowing tributes in honour of all those who laid their lives to preserve and protect the freedom, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation.\r\n\r\n All the same, entertainment was in plenty and the throngs of cavalrymen and their families who filled the parade ground to capacity were savoured with dances, songs, cultural performances and games. \r\n\r\nAnd as has become the norm for all Corps day celebrations, yesterday’s celebrations were alighted by the presence of some of the brightest stars of the Corps past and present. \r\n
