Cavaliers and their families celebrated traditional Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival “ Soorya Mangalya 2018” at Home of Armour on 7 April 2018 in grandeur manner. The Commander -Security Force Headquarters (West) , Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps Major General S D T Liyanage WWV RWP ndc psc and Mrs Shiromi Liyanage graced the occasion as the Chief Guests.
The event was ceremonially declared open with the hoisting of National flag and lightening of the traditional oil lamp which added an extra elegant to the proceedings.
Focusing on the Sri Lankan culture “ Village Headman’s’ House”(Arachchi Niwasa) and the Folks’ House (Gemi Gedara) erected at the venue were attracted by the guests. The occasion decorated with a thrilling show of Sri Lankan fighting style; “Angam Pora”. There were array of traditional games and entertainments to provide joy and to promote the unity among the Cavaliers and their families which is the hallmark of New Year.
20, Selected school children were gifted with “Sathara” book packs as a premium work of the Armour Ladies Club. The event was organized by the staff of Armoured Brigade, Regimental Centre, 1 SLAC and members of Armour Ladies Club.
