The function of an effective solid waste management system has become a priority requirement in any establishment in the current context. It solves many health and environmental issues while greatly supporting the concept of sustainable development.
The awareness of this important aspect has become more pronounced recently in Sri Lanka and many projects to hygienically and scientifically manage solid waste has been inaugurated at national and local government level. Having recognized the environmental, health and even the economical benefits of this timely venture, the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps had been doing solid waste management since December 2017.
However, this project was inaugurated with a more systematic and an organized manner on 04 January 2019 with the guidance of Brig G D Sooriyabandara, The Centre Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps. This newly introduced project consists with required infrastructure and a dedicated staff for waste collection, transportation, segregation, up to final disposal and recycling through outsourcing.
During the inauguration, the Centre Commandant appreciated the Civilian workers those who work dutifully to make this project a success. He also educated the troops on the importance of this project and highlighted the obligation of each and every individual for systematic disposal of garbage.
