FORMAL MILITARY CEREMONY BIDS FAREWELL TO OUTGOING COLONEL COMMANDANT, MAJOR GENERAL D B S N BOTHOTA RWP RSP VSV USP psc

Sri Lanka Armoured Corps bid farewell to its loyal Cavalryman, Major General D B S N Bothota RWP RSP VSV USP psc on 04 June 2023. The former Security Forces Commander (Jaffna) and the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps has received a big salute on his retirement at the end of more than 35 years of active service as the iconic feature of the Cavalry Family.

The days’ programme commenced with the arrival on Major General Swarna Bothota and he was welcomed by the Lt Col R K K Paragahathanthree psc, the Commanding Officer of the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment following a Guard Turnout. The Colorful Parade was reviewed by the outgoing Colonel Commandant, accompanied by the Parade Commander together with Brigadier W P Kariyawasam, Commander Armoured Brigade and Brigadier P N Wijesiriwardena RSP USP, Centre Commandant in accordance with military traditions.

Meanwhile, Major General Swarna Bothota, placed his official signature to handed over the responsibilities to the appointed Colonel Commandant of the SLAC. All Rank Tea culminated the day’s 1st stage proceedings. Mrs (Dr) Harshini Bothota, outgoing President of the Armour Ladies Club also attended the ceremony. At the end of the events, the outgoing Colonel Commandant was awarded a street lining farewell bids ‘Jaya Sri by officers and other ranks of the SLAC.

The day's event also textured with the Farewell Dinner hosted in honour of the outgoing Colonel Commandant by all Officers at the Cavalry Officers’ Mess with their spouses. Major General D B S N Bothota RWP RSP VSV USP psc commented in his speech both at the Regimental Parade and Farewell Dinner, that extending his heartfelt gratitude for the generous assistance offered by many ways by all Officers and Other Ranks during his military career.
