FIRST EVER COLOURS NIGHT OF SRI LANKA ARMOURED CORPS HISTORY UNFOLDS

Sri Lanka Armoured Corps ceremonially conducted its first ever Colours Night on 20 February 2023. The event was held at the Faculty of Graduate Studies main auditorium at KDU with the gracious participation of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu as the chief guest.

The event was organised under the guidance of Major General D B S N Bothota RWP RSP VSV USP psc, the Commander SFHQ (J) and the Colonel Commandant SLAC to appreciate the sports talents and skills displayed by all Ranks of SLAC from its inception.

There had been 477 Armour Sportsmen who have become eligible to receive Armour Colours from 1955 to 2019 and 75 of them honoured under four segments at the event. The momentous event got to a start after the Colonel Commandant delivered the welcome note. The day’s event reached its climax as the Chief Guest was invited to the stage to award Colours to those SLAC personnel who have excelled exceptionally well in sports. Later, a brief address of the day's Chief Guest to the occasion highlighted the importance of sports to the organisation.

In appreciation of the presence, the Colonel Commandant SLAC presented a replica of a Main Battle Tank to the Commander of the Army and the Commander reciprocated with a Silver Plate. Soon after, setting an encouraging precedence the Commander of the Army presented a cash gift worth of Rs. 1 million to further promote the sporting skills of SLAC.

The day's proceedings were brought to culmination with a vote of thanks delivered by Brigadier W P Kariyawasam, the Commander Armoured Brigade followed with a group photograph.

Senior officers, Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Officers and a large gathering of distinguished guests witnessed the 'Colours Night'.
