DREAM CAME TO A REALITY- SECRETARY DEFENCE OPENS NEW CAVALRY OFFICERS MESS

Adding glamour and pride to the prestigious Sri Lanka Armoured Corps in the eve of its 57 Anniversary, Hon Gotabaya Rajapaksa Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development as the chief guest declared open and commissioned New Cavalry Officers Mess on 12 December 2012 on the invitation of Lt Gen Jagath Jayasuriya the Commander of the Army and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps.\r\n\r\nThe chief guest was accorded with a guard turnout after the warm reception by the Commander of the Army/Colonel Commandant of the SLAC and conducted to the venue in a colourful procession. Later he unveiled the plaque and ceremonially opened the Officers Mess. A large no of officers including Gen R De S Daluwatta (Rtd) and Maj Gen M D Fernando (Rtd) graced the occasion.\r\n\r\nThis three storied Cavalry Officers Mess was a brain child of Lt Gen Jagath Jayasuriya the Commander of the Army and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps was completed in less ten months from the day of (9 March 2012) its foundation stone laid. The success of this dream Citadel is nothing but the continuous guidance, encouragement and blessings of the Col Commandant and sheer commitment of all personnel of SLAC, 1 ESR and all other supportive hands of various units of army led by Colonel N I De Silva, Centre Commandant Sri Lanka Armouerd Corps.\r\n\r\nNew Cavalry Officers Mess built with modern architect features includes a banquet hall which can accommodate 400 personnel and roof top terrace which can accommodate another 300 personnel in functions, other than spacious areas for officers to dine and wine. Not only SLAC but also entire army, other forces and civilians too will be benefitted in future from the facilities available in New Cavalry Officers Mess.
