The Military Secretary and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Major General S W M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc made his first visit as the 14th Colonel Commandant to 4 Armoured Regiment on 05 November 2023. He was accompanied by Brigadier P N Wijesiriwardena RSP USP, the Centre Commandant, Regimental Centre SLAC and Brigadier L K T Fernando RSP USP, Commander Armoured Brigade.
The Colonel Commandant, after being received by the Commanding Officer, paid floral tributes to the fallen war heroes. After planting a sapling, he addressed troops by emphasising the importance of maintaining quality and standards of 4 AR and the Armoured Corps, and also the importance of maintaining discipline.
After visiting the Camp premises, Col Comdt addressed the Officers at the Officers' Mess, where he recollected the memories of his tenure at the 4 Armoured Regiment and advised Officers by reciting his experiences. Prior to the departure he placed remarks in the Visitors Book.
'During the visit, the Colonel Commandant declared open the renovated Troopers' Mess too. Further, Colonel Commandant expressed his admiration for the collective efforts of the members of the regiment, emphasising the importance of such infrastructure projects to maintain the morale among the troops.
The design and construction of this new facility was carried out by 4 AR troops and material support for the construction was given by many well-wishers including a generous contribution made by Major General P A M Peiris RSP USP psc, who provided the entire requirement of ceiling sheets.
