One of most decorated senior cavalryman Major General N Udawatta WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps retired from the Army on 10th November 2016 after serving for more the 35 years. Sri Lanka Armoured Corps held a parade and a formal dinner night at the Rock House camp premises on 10th November 2016, giving pride and paying gratitude for his invaluable service to the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and to the Sri Lanka Army. Commencing the days programme Major General N Udawatta WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc was warmly welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel R R M P N B Bambaradeniya RWP RSP USP psc, Commanding Officer of the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment SLAC on his arrival to the parade ground and followed with a Guard Turnout before being accorded with the colourful ceremonial parade commanded by Lieutenant Colonel T A M K de Silva RSP USP psc, the Commanding Officer of 5th Reconnaissance Regiment SLAC. Thereafter, Major General Nandana Udawatta officially handed over duties as the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and therein planted a tree sapling to mark the event followed with All Ranks Tea.
Terminating the days event a street lining was given to Major General Nandana Udawatta with farewell bids Jaya Sri before he departed from the Rock House Camp as the outgoing Colonel Commandant. the evening Major General Nandana Udawatta and his lovely lady Mrs Shirani Udawatta, former President of the Armour Ladies Club was warmly welcomed by the Major General Ubaya Medawala RSP VSV USP ndu psc, Chief of Staff of the Army and Mrs Medawela to the delightful farewell dinner night hosted by the officers with the participation of Brigadier D T Gamage psc Centre Commandant, Brigadier A L P S Tillekerathna RWP RSP USP psc, Commander Armoured Brigade, council members, senior officers and officers of the Corps with their beloved wives. The event culminated with Major General Udawatta bidding farewell to Armoured Corps on a Ferret Scout Car.All ranks of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps wishing Major General Nandana Udawatta and family for success in all future endeavours.
