For the first time in the SLAC history Cavalry Boxers emerge as the overall Champions in Army Inter Regiment Boxing 2024, held at the APTS Panagoda Indoor Stadium from 07 to 10 April 2024, claiming 3 x Gold, 2 x Silver, and 3 x Bronze Medals.
Leading the charge were the Gold Medalists: Tpr Dissanayaka H M G C N from 6 SLAC in the 57kg weight group, L/Cpl Wijekoon W M M L from 4 SLAC in the 60kg weight group, and Tpr Madushanka R D D D from 5 SLAC in the 61kg weight group. Gold Medalists were complemented by the Silver Medalists: Tpr Madushanka K A D from 4 SLAC in the 63.5kg weight group and Tpr Asela K M T G T from 5 SLAC in the 80kg weight group. Adding to this impressive tally were the Bronze Medalists: Tpr Siriwardena S M D S from 6 SLAC in the 67kg weight group, Tpr Thilakarathne B P G D D B from 4 SLAC in the 75kg weight group, and Tpr Athapattu A M H K from 3 SLAC in the 86kg weight group.
Behind these victories stood a dedicated team of coaches: Head Coach Cpl Jayathilake D G from 6 SLAC, and Assistant Coaches Cpl Sajeewa Nuwan M P G from 6 SLAC and L/Cpl Kalhamuge K P L from 1 SLAC. Their guidance and support were instrumental in shaping the success of the cavalry boxers. The Chief Guest, Maj Gen AK Rajapakshe RSP, Master General Ordnance, graced the occasion by presenting the Championship awards to the deserving winners. This triumph was a result of unwavering dedication and commitment, both from the boxers and the coaching staff, under the guidance and directions of the Colonel Commandant SLAC.
The Colonel Commandant and all ranks extended heartfelt appreciation and congratulations to the Boxers, Coaching Staff and Management. The names of these cavalry boxers will now be etched in the annals of boxing history, shining brightly among the legends of the sport.
