ARMOURED CORPS CELEBRATED ITS 61ST CORPS DAY AT ROCK HOUSE

The Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) celebrates its 61st Anniversary today, 15th December 2016 at the Rock House Camp, Colombo 15. The celebration began on 5 December 2016 with religious activities to invoke blessings on the Corps and the war heroes of the Corps who paid the supreme sacrifice to protect our motherland. The milestone occasion was marked by the wreath laying on 9 December 2016 at the Armour War Heroes Memorial Park, Anuradhapura by Major General S D T Liyanage WWV RWP ndc psc, Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps with the attendance of serving officers and families of fallen war heroes. Major General Sathyappriya Liyanage accepted the salute as the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps on the parade accorded by the troops of cavalry family in front of highly attended gathering at the parade ground.The highlight of the event was the presence of retired and serving senior officers of the Corps, their spouses, officers, other ranks and a large number of kith and kin of fallen war heroes were present during the ceremony. Attraction of the Corps Day included the colourful parade, awards presentation and many exciting and joyful events. A centrepiece of the Day was the awarding ceremony where the SLAC Regiments were rewarded for their performances during the year. 1st Reconnaissance Regiment won the General Deshamanya Sepala Attygalle Memorial Trophy awarded for the Best All Round Regiment for the year 2016. The ‘Silver Scout’ for the Best Sports Regiment was jointly won by 4 Armoured Regiment and 7 (V) Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps whilst 1st Reconnaissance Regimentwon the ‘Silver Stalwart’ awarded for the Best Regiment in Administration. The Commanding Officers and Regimental Sergeant Majors of respective regiments accepted their award from the Colonel Commandant amidst applauds from everyone present.
