Whither the Fates Call

Written By : Lt Col Anton Wijesekara RSP psc - SLAC\r\n\r\nThe Sri Lanka Armoured Corps today held a colourful farewell parade to its most loyal son, General Jagath Jayasuriya RWP VSV USP ndu psc. The former Chief of Defence Staff took salute for the last time at the Home of Cavalry after a distinguished career spanning 37 years. He will retire from active service with effect from 1st August and embark on a new career as a diplomat.\r\n\r\nA proud product of Royal College Colombo, General Jagath Jayasuriya went on to become the second longest serving Army Commander and had the distinction of becoming the youngest officer to be elevated to the rank of General in the Sri Lanka Army. His leadership was also instrumental in eliminating terrorism in Sri Lanka, as Commander of Security Forces in Wanni theatre of operations from 2006 to 2009. \r\n\r\nAs a true cavalryman, he has brought fame to the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps throughout his service. He will best be remembered for his contribution to the Corps as an all rounder. His biggest tribute to the Corps has been the five storey facility complex for soldiers and the star class Cavalry Officers Mess built in 2011 and 2012 respectively.\r\n\r\nA grand dinner was also hosted at the New Cavalry Officers Mess in honour of General Jagath Jayasuriya and Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya.\r\n
