25th Anniversary of Armour Ladies Club

The Armour Ladies Club proudly celebrated its 25 th AGM / Silver Jubilee from 0830 hours onwards on 24 March 2024 at the Cavalry Officers Mess, Rock House Camp. The president of the club, Mrs Samangka Fernando graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The leading charity organization of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps was founded under the leadership of the Mrs Malkanthi Marambe in 1999. Subsequently, the organization was reformed and established as a separate entity based at the Regimental Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps. In it’s 25 year legacy ALC was playing a significant role in providing welfare facilities to soldiers and their families in dire need of assistance.

The event proceedings unfolded with the AGM formalities. The president warmly welcomed all participants and illustrated the significance of ALC in providing the living comfort of our officers and soldiers in need. The proceedings included the flashback of the welfare efforts of last year, showcasing the monetary status and minutes of the last AGM. The new committee was also appointed for the next year to take the current projects forward.

During the proceedings, selected Five soldiers from each unit received Rs 350,000 of monetary assistance to complete their half-built houses. Additionally, all 123 civilian staff employed in whole corps including Armoured Corps Training Centre, received a pack of dry rations worth over Rs 7,500. All funds for the donations were allocated by the earnings from the SINGALONG 2023, the fund-raising event organized by the Armour Ladies Club last year.

Further, L/Cpl Madhusanka Kumara ABT from 3 SLAC was given a ‘Wheel Chair’ who is under medication at ‘Ranaviru Sevana – Ragama’. The wheel chair was provided by ‘Buddhist Association’, Singapore Coordinated by Mrs Thalatha Upulmalee Premathilaka

The item that caught everyone’s interest in the agenda was the timely lecture, conducted by Major Amila Kariyawasam of Sri Lanka Signal Corps under the topic of ‘How to obtain passive income (affiliated business/woo commerce opportunities). All member ladies attentively listened to the lecture while clarifying their doubts.

The entertainment segment following the formal proceedings of the AGM was held at Cavalry officers’ mess with the patronage of the past presidents of ALC and the afternoon comprised of dance acts by the army dance troop followed by a fun stand up comedy segment put together by the well-known duo Janai Priyai'.
