6th Regiment Sri Lanka Signal Corps was actively contributed to ending the brutal war that lasted for more than 30 years, was inaugurated as the second support battalion of the Corps of Signals on 1997 January 10 at Mannar area. Thereafter, the unit has carried out operational duties in Welioya, Chavakacheri, Pallepai, Manthikai, Mirisuvil, Kilali, Muhamale, Elephantpass, Settikadu, and Jaffna areas, and restructured on 2014 June 16 as an IT unit from support battalion duties. It has stationed in the Jaffna area, and covered the IT related tasks of 1 Corps, SFHQ (J), SFHQ (W) and SFHQ (MLT) Security Force Headquarters area.
Starting form 2023 May 29 the unit was stationed at Sri Lanka Army Headquarters to cover the all ICT related duties at AHQ as well for proper maintenance of Information and Communication Technology Systems with a legacy of over 27 years of history. Presently Major MC Tukkavadu SLSC, is performing duties as Commanding Officer 6th Regiment Sri Lanka Signal Corps (AHQ) under the supervision of the Office of Chief Signal Officer and 1 Signal Brigade.
