THE MUSEUM OF SRI LANKA SIGNAL CORPS OPENS TO THE TROOPS

Materializing a much anticipated concept of the Chief Signal Officer of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Signal Corps Major General KAWS Ratnayake ndu, “ Lt Col DV Brohier Motivation Center”, the first ever Museum and the library compound of Sri Lanka Signal Corps was declared open on 15 October 2023 at the Regimental Centre premises, Panagoda. Brig FCJ De Silva (Retired) USP, the most senior retired Signal officer of the Corps of Signals symbolically involved in the opening by unveiling the memorial plaque in parallel to 80th Anniversary celebrations of the prestigious Regiment.

The museum is one of the major development projects launched recently and provides the ideal platform to study a comprehensive historical glimpse of the Corps of Signals in terms of technological evolution, operational commitments and miscellaneous worth remembering occasions during the span of 80 years transformation. The objective of establishing this museum is to collect and preserve old technological equipment used by the Signallers and ever lasting memories for the benefit and cherishment of future generations and possesses every feature of a modern museum.

Housed in a two-story building, the museum provides valuable information on the technology used by the Sri Lanka Signal Corps with exciting displays. The two compartments in the ground floor are dedicated to a fully furnished library and a modern smart class room. The first floor has compartments for displaying relics and exhibits of all forms of communication technologies used by Sri Lanka Signal Corps up to date, murals, models, wooden creations and replicas. The floor also comprises a unique collection of old photographs of Sri Lanka Signal Corps illustrating remarkable moments and proud achievements of the Corps. The library at the museum is composed of an e library and offers the facility of lending around 2000 books, donated by serving and retired officers and other ranks of Sri Lanka Signal Corps. The museum wall also reserve space for the remembrance of fallen war heroes, who sacrificed their lives on the sacred course of preserving motherland. The museum is a valuable information center for undergraduates and trainees in the field of military communication, university students, historians as well as researchers. Many retired senior officers and other well-wishers of the Regiment, provided much appreciated financial contribution for making this land mark construction a success, whilst other ranks of Sri Lanka Signal Corps were providing labour contribution. Serving and retired senior officers and other ranks of Sri Lanka Signal Corps, The current President and former presidents of Signal Seva Vanitha Branch were among the large gathering.
