The Sri Lanka Signal Corps will celebrate its 82nd Anniversary on 19 October 2025 and began its series of commemorative events on Tuesday (14), giving pride of place to the memory of fallen War Heroes in the monument parade at Regimental Centre, Panagoda.
The memorial event was graced by the Chief Signal Officer of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Major General GLSW Liyanage USP nps psc as the Chief Guest. A host of serving and retired Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, retired Regimental Sergeant Majors, Warrant Officer’s and SNCO’s, members of the SLSC Seva Vanitha Unit as well as parents, widows, children and family members of fallen War Heroes, who laid their precious lives for the motherland, witnessed the solemn ceremony.
The remembrance programme with 104 families of late War Heroes started with march-in of the SLSC troops for the salute and laying of floral wreaths at the monument, amid religious rites and rituals. Memorial event concluded with the typical ‘Retreat’ in accordance with military traditions.
The religious activities started in the evening on the same day next to a colourful cultural procession with the participation of troops from all Signals units to accompany Buddhist Priests to start the overnight Pirith Chanting observance. The Colonel Commandant and Chairperson of the Signals Seva Vanitha Branch Mrs. Ayesha Liyanage together with many senior serving officers with members of the Signals Seva Vanitha Branch and the family members of the deceased servicemen of the Corps of Signals attended the ceremony. Further audience observed their best dedicated calmness in merit of all fallen and peace of mind in disabled.
In early morning of October 15, 2025, Alms Giving Ceremony (Heel Dana) was held for 15 Buddhist Priests who chanted Pirith overnight with invoking blessing of the Noble Triple Gem. The War Heros Commemoration ceremony was concluded with sharing views with families of fallen heroes and Commanding Officers of respective regiments.
