The Regimental Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps was filled with pride and celebration as the corps paid tribute to two of its exceptional athletes this morning, the Colonel Commandant of the Corps welcomed and honoured two of its outstanding athletes, Lance Corporal M Y F Safiya and Lance Corporal D T A De Silva for their outstanding achievements at the 4th south Asian Senior Athletics Championship 2025 held in Ranchi, India. Their stellar performances, which brought international recognition and glory to both the Sri Lanka Army and the nation, were honoured in a grand felicitation ceremony graced by the Colonel commandant of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps.
Achievements;
Lance Corporal M Y F Safiya claimed gold in three events: the 100 m (11.53 s), the 200 m (23.58 s) and anchoring the 4×100 m relay (44.70 s) — in all cases setting new meet records and thereby earning her the title of “South Asia’s fastest woman”.
Lance Corporal D T A De Silva secured silver in the 100 m and gold in the 4×100 m relay (44.70 s) together with the relay team, also setting a meet record as part of that effort.
During the ceremony at RHQ SLSC, the Colonel Commandant commended both athletes for their discipline, dedication, and ability to bring pride to both the Corps and the nation. He emphasized how their achievements align with the Corps’ ethos of excellence and teamwork.
This felicitation comes at a moment of rising momentum for Sri Lankan athletics: Safiya’s trio of golds and record-breaking runs have been widely covered in national sports media.
