Bak Maha Ulela 2013 (New Year Festival) organized by Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) and the Seva Vanitha Unit was held on Sunday 05 May 2013 amidst a gathering of Seva Vanitha members, SLSC Senior Officers, Disabled War Heroes, members of the corps with their families.
Major General E.P de Z Abeysekera, Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Signal Corps attended the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of SLSC Seva Vanitha Unit.
The full-day festival comprised of a variety of games and fun-making events such as bun eating, the best laugh, fancy dress competition, musical chairs, cross country races, slow movement cycling, tug of war, pillow-fighting, marathon races, balancing games, hurdle runs, elephant eye spotting, pot smashing, cadjan-weaving, etc.
The most touching and the special feature of the festival was the special game arrangements that had been arranged for Disabled War Heroes who actively showed their skills. Children and women equally enjoyed the event throughout and claimed victory in several games.
Mrs. Sandamali Abeysekera, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Signal Corps Seva Vanitha Unit, together with Seva Vanitha members and Regimental Centre SLSC organized and ensured the smooth flow of the entire ceremony. A huge gathering of Senior officers, other ranks and well-wishers witnessed the day's event.
After the event, the gift packs organized by Signal Junior Club were distributed among the differently able soldiers by the Chairperson and members.
In the evening, Signal Seva Vanitha members held their monthly meeting at Regimental Officers' Mess, Panagoda and donated two scholarships for children of serving and differently able soldiers.
