SENIOR SIGNALLERS BOUNCED HIGH AT THE ARMY INTER REGIMENT BADMINTON TOURNAMENT

Corps of Signals secured the Army Badminton over 40 and 50 titles, as in many years, at the end of the Army Inter Regiment Badminton Tournament 2017. The tournament was held from 12th to 15th July 2017 at the Army Gymnasium Pangoda, where the Chief Field Engineer (CFE) Maj Gen G D I Karunarathne RSP psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the awarding ceremony.\r\n\r\n As the matches were progressed, after a lightning battle, Maj General K R P Rowel RWP USP ndu psc was able to secure an unbeaten status together with Col P S Thilakrathna in the over 50 doubles event. During the 1st round, Maj Gen K R P Rowel and his partner pounded Col J C C G Jayasinghe and Lt Col K G K Priyantha reaching the 2nd round. After a triumphant series of matches, they came to the finals and sealed their victory against Brig D T Gamage psc and Brig W A Ariyarthna RWP RSP.\r\n\r\n During the over 40 events of the same tournament, Lt Col S H P D Thilakarathna RSP SLSC kept the Signals flag high by winning the over 40 doubles with Spr Silva D T. During the 1st round, Lt Col S H P D Thilakarathna and his partner won over WO1 G H Dharmarathna and S/Sgt Jayasingha P G M D and came to the next round. After the completion of thriving matches, Lt Col S H P D Thilakarathna and his partner reached the finals and become the champions by defeating Brig D T Gamage and Maj Kariyawasam. \r\n\r\n In the Veterans over 35 doubles final event, Lt Col S H P D Thilakarathna and his partner Sgt Perera D G H became runner-up as Col M Abyrathna and Pte Hemantha P S S beaten them for their victory .\r\n
