REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY SALUTES FALLEN WAR VETERANS

'Remembrance Day', commonly known as ‘Poppy Day’ ceremony of the year 2017 was held in the morning hours on 11th November 2017 at Viharamaha Devi Park, Colombo 7, which is annually organized by the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen's Association (SLESA).

The Chief Guest of the commemorative ceremony, Hon Speaker of the Parliament was warmly received by Brigadier (Rtd) K.A Gnanaweera, President, SLESA together with senior SLESA members before the rituals and formalities began. Then as the ceremonial practices progressed, Chief Guest including State Minister of Defence, Secretary Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders, former tri-service Commanders, Ambassadors, Government officials, senior officers, retired service personnel and next-of-kin of the fallen War Heroes laid floral wreaths and saluted paying a solemn tribute to all War Heroes.

This National Service of Remembrance is held on the Remembrance Sunday of the year, the closest Sunday to the date 11th November (Armistice Day) of each year.
