CYBERSECURITY AND ELECTRONIC WARFARE SYMPOSIUM – 2025 “SECURING THE DIGITAL FRONTLINE”

The Cybersecurity and Electronic Warfare Symposium 2025, organized by the 2 Signal Brigade in collaboration with the 9th Regiment Sri Lanka Signal Corps and the 12th Regiment Sri Lanka Signal Corps, was successfully conducted on 12 September 2025 at the Officers’ Mess, Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Signal Corps.

This pioneering event marked a historic milestone for the Sri Lanka Signal Corps as it inaugurated the first dedicated technological forum on Cybersecurity and Electronic Warfare (EW). The initiative underscored the Corps’ commitment to enhancing the Army’s preparedness in countering modern digital threats and strengthening resilience in the cyber and electronic warfare domains.

The symposium was honoured by the presence of the Chief Signal Officer of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Major General Sajith Liyanage USP nps psc who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. A distinguished audience comprising senior and junior officers of the Corps actively participated in the proceedings.

Symposium was guided by the theme of “Securing the Digital Frontline”, and provided a vital platform for professional dialogue and knowledge exchange on the rapidly evolving challenges of cyber and electronic warfare. The event featured four core sessions, each addressing a decisive dimension of contemporary and future military operations:

1. Securing Operational Technology: Fortifying the Digital Supply Lines This session highlighted the vulnerabilities of operational technology and digital supply chains, emphasizing their growing importance to national security. Strategies to safeguard these systems, strengthen resilience frameworks, and anticipate emerging threats in future battle spaces were examined in detail. This Lecture was Presented by: Mr. Lakmal Embuldeniya

2. NIST CSF 2.0 and Governance: Aligning Cyber Resilience with National Defence This presentation explored the application of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) 2.0 in aligning governance structures with defense strategies. The discussion reinforced the necessity of embedding resilience and adaptability into Army networks to maintain operational superiority against evolving cyber threats. This Lecture was Presented by: Mr. Lasantha Priyankara.

3. Generative AI in Cybersecurity: Threat Accelerator or Defence Multiplier This timely discussion evaluated the dual role of Artificial Intelligence in cyberspace. While AI has the potential to revolutionize detection and response mechanisms, it equally equips adversaries with advanced offensive capabilities. The session emphasized the need for critical adoption, careful risk assessment, and strategic integration of AI into national defense. This Lecture was Presented by: Mr. Shervin Janze.

4. Modern Applications of Electronic Warfare. This session underscored the decisive influence of Electronic Warfare in shaping modern conflicts through control of the electromagnetic spectrum. By analyzing global trends and real-world applications, the presenters highlighted strategies to reinforce the Army’s EW posture and strengthen cyber-electronic integration. This Lecture was collectively Presented by: Colonel BP Udage USP and Lieutenant Colonel AMCK Atapattu USP.

The symposium made clear that cybersecurity and electronic warfare are not merely defensive measures, but strategic enablers of operational resilience, superiority, and long-term security. Each session underscored the urgent need to integrate technological innovation into the Army’s defense posture while fostering adaptive strategies to confront future challenges.

More than 71 Signal Officers participated for the event while 75 Officers joined via zoom online and specially for the junior officers, the symposium was a formative professional development experience, offering direct access to expert insights, exposure to cutting-edge concepts, and valuable mentorship from senior leadership.

As the first event of its kind, the Cybersecurity and Electronic Warfare Symposium – 2025 has set a new benchmark for professional engagement within the Sri Lanka Signal Corps. The forum not only promoted intellectual discourse but also paved the way for sustained collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation in the domains of cyber and electronic warfare.

By initiating this platform, the 2 Signal Brigade has reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that the Sri Lanka Signal Corps continues to lead the way in technological excellence, operational readiness, and defense innovation.
