CORPS OF SIGNALS WELCOMED THE INCOMING COLONEL COMMANDANT

The Sri Lanka Signal Corps presented military honours and warm greetings to the newly-appointed Colonel Commandant, Major General B H M A Wijesinghe USP ndu psc during the formal ceremony held at the Signals Regimental Headquarters at Panagoda on Monday, 17 April 2017. Upon the onset at the entrance of the Regimental Headquarters, the arriving Colonel Commandant was warmly welcomed by Brigadier P A J Peiris, Signals Regimental Centre Commandant and awarded the Guard Turnout as the initial military formality. Then the foremost of the Corps was conducted to the Signals Memorial to lay the floral wreath in respect to the memory of unmatched sacrifices of the fallen War Heroes. In short of the previous event, the ceremonial military parade commanded by Lt Col B D Fernando USP psc, Commanding Officer 5th Regiment SLSC, was accorded in honour of the newly appointed Colonel Commandant for his time-honored reviewing. Then in the new office, Maj Gen B H M A Wijesinghe lit the traditional oil lamp and took over the duties with the responsibilities of the Corps of Signals at the auspicious time by signing the first official document that were done in the midst of chanting Seth Pirith by the Buddhist priests. The day’s ceremony was conducted ahead with the subsequent events of addressing All Ranks, addressing all officers, discussion with the senior officers, courtesy lunch at the Officers’ Mess and the All Ranks’ High-Tea in the evening. Major General Ajith Wijesinghe is with 32 years of loyal military service who joined the Sri Lanka Army on 18th January 1985 as an Officer Cadet of Intake-20 of the Sri Lanka Military Academy. At the end of the basic military training, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 31st May 1986 and then posted to the prestigious 1st Signal Regt of the Corps of Signals. Since then, he has rendered his dedicated duty, honour and respect to the Corps of Signals as well as to the Army as a professional Signaller. Major General Ajith Wijesinghe is also the present Chief Signal Officer of the Sri Lanka Army. During his military career, Major General Ajith Wijesinghe has held considerably a large number of Command, Staff and Instructional appointments in both operational and non-operational areas in the country whereas he finally held the office as the General Officer Commanding of the 62 Infantry Division.
