Commander of the Army unveils Signals War Memorial

The most significant event of the 71st Anniversary Celebrations of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps held at the Regimental Headquarters premises on 31st October and 1st November 2014 with the participation of 272 families of fallen war heroes who made supreme sacrifice on behalf of the motherland. This is an annual event organized by the Regimental Headquarter SLSC in order to facilitate families of fallen war heroes to tribute their loved ones.\r\n\r\nThis event commenced with the overnight \'Pirith Chanting Ceremony\' on 31 October 2014 followed by \'Heel Dana\' and \'Sangika Dana\' for 71 Buddhist monks on the following day. The Colonel Commandant SLSC and the Chief of Staff of the Army Maj Gen S A P P Samarasinghe RSP USP psc, Chief Signal Officer Maj Gen K R P Rowel RWP USP ndc psc and all senior officers of the Corps of Signal participated the event. \r\n\r\nAt the Remembrance ceremony, Commander of the Army Lt Gen R M D Ratnayake WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc has unveiled the plaque of the newly built \'Signals War Memorial\' and paid tribute by placing a flower wreath on the invitation of the Colonel Commandant SLSC and the Chief of Staff of the Army Maj Gen S A P P Samarasinghe RSP USP psc. The unique design of the Signals War Memorial is a show piece of a modern era war monument and owe highest respect for the valiant soldiers who laid their lives to bring much awaited peace to our motherland. A large number of serving and retired officers and Other Ranks gathered for the occasion.\r\n\r\nDuring the visit to the RHQ SLSC the Commander of the Army didn\'t forget to address the key appointment holders of SLSC and serving and retired senior officers of the Corps. Thereby Commander of the Army appreciated the infrastructure development projects and newly built state of art conference room completed within short span of time and also admired the efforts and the commitment of the all Signalers towards the betterment of the Corps. At the end of the event, Colonel Commandant SLSC has handed over the first copy of the \'Signaller\' magazine, to the Commander of the Army along with an iconic \'Jimmy\' statue to mark his visit to Sri Lanka Signal Corps.
