BOOK DISTRIBUTION PROGRAMME FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN & LAUNCHING OF ‘THAKSALAWA’ WEB AND MOBILE APPLICATION WAS HELD AT REGIMENTAL HEADQUARTERS SRI LANKA SIGNAL CORPS IN PARALLEL TO 80TH CORPS DAY ANNIVERSARY

The book distribution programme for nearly 2,700 school children covering all other ranks of Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) and civil servants working with Corps of Signals was held on 26 October 2023 at the Auditorium RHQ SLSC to coincide with the world Children's Day and 80th Anniversary of Sri Lanka Signal Corps. The event was aimed at supporting schooling necessities, by providing writing books and other stationary were symbolically distributed among 112 students. The books had been provided after identifying the specific requirement with respect to Grade 1 to Grade 12.

The President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs Janaki Liyanage graced the occasion as the chief guest at the invitation of Mrs. Nalini Ratnayake - President Sri Lanka Signal Corps Seva Vanitha Branch (SLSC SVB).

The representatives of the units of Corps of Signals were given away the certificates to symbolically mark distribution of books for the school children of their respective unit.

Moreover, the beloved daughter of late S/275142 Sgt Kumarasinghe HDS of 3 SLSC, who was killed in action in Mannar while performing RFT duties in 6 SLSC (RFT) in 1999 was awarded a scholarship worth of Rs 10,000/= per month aiding until the completion of her university education. She is a third year medical student at University of Peradeniya.

In addition three school children those who have passed Grade 5 scholarship examination – 2022 too had been provided with required writing book packs with stationary.

The entire project is financially estimated as approximately Rs 9 million and PrintXcel (Pvt) Ltd, Atlas Axillia Co. (Pvt) Ltd and well wishes of Crops of Signals extended their generous assistance by providing sponsorship.

The significance has been given to the official launch of the educational Web and Mobile Application ‘Thaksalawa’, an indigenous software designed by the Directorate of Information Technology. The user - friendly mobile platform provides easy access to all levels of learning materials and sources of education in electronic mode up in the fields of grammer, essay and vocabulary covering all grades up to G.C.E. Ordinary Level, fulfilling a vast gap of knowledge in English. The web application was made available to the subscribers with the symbolic signing in by the President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Janaki Liyanage,

The Chief Signal Officer of Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Major General KAWS Ratnayake ndu, Mrs. Dilupa Peiris - Project Coordinator Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Shammi Jayawardena – President SLE Seva Vanitha Branch, Mrs. Samangka Fernando - president SLAC Seva Vanitha Branch and members of SLSC – SVB were also present. Mr.Shanil Senerath Group CEO printxcel (pvt) ltd also took part in the event in the capacity of sponsors.
