LECTURE ON NUTRITION SCIENCE CONDUCTED IN LINE WITH WEDNESDAY TRAINING PROGRAM

A special lecture on “Nutrition Science” was conducted on 29 January 2025, at the 4th Sri Lanka Artillery Lecture Hall in conjunction with the Wednesday Training Day program. The event was organized under the guidance of Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, the Commander Security Forces (West).

The primary aim of the lecture was to enhance the knowledge of military personnel regarding the importance of proper nutrition and balanced dietary habits. Good nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining the physical and mental well-being of soldiers, directly impacting their performance, endurance, and overall health. The session emphasized the necessity of consuming a well-balanced diet to ensure optimum fitness and preparedness for military duties.

A total of 07 Officers and 146 Other Ranks participated in this informative session. The event provided a valuable platform for military personnel to expand their understanding of dietary principles and their application in daily life.

The lecture was conducted by Major P J L M Gunasekara SLAMC from the Army Base Hospital Panagoda, she addressed several key topics related to dietary health, including: • What is a Balanced Diet? – The significance of consuming meals that provide the right proportion of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals to maintain overall health. • Essential Components of a Nutritious Meal – Identifying key food groups and their benefits in enhancing energy levels, immune function, and overall body strength. • Dietary Recommendations for Military Personnel – Special nutritional guidelines tailored for soldiers to maintain high energy levels and sustain peak physical performance. • Hydration and Its Importance – The role of adequate water intake in preventing dehydration and ensuring optimal body function, especially during intense training sessions. • Common Nutritional Deficiencies and Their Effects – Understanding the risks of inadequate nutrition, including deficiencies in iron, calcium, and vitamins, which can impact strength and endurance. This session played a crucial role in educating military personnel on the importance of making informed dietary choices. Soldiers require a well-structured diet to support their physically demanding lifestyle, and the knowledge shared during the lecture will help them adopt healthier eating habits.
