Major General Lanka Amarapala, RWP RSP ndc psc, the Commander Security Forces (West), and Parade Commander for the upcoming 77th Independence Day celebrations, delivered an inspiring address to Officers and Other Ranks participating in the parade. The event was held at the Army Gymnasium on 26th January marking a significant moment in the lead-up to this national celebration.
In his address, Major General Lanka Amarapala reflected on the Sri Lanka Army’s long-standing tradition of excellence in organizing Independence Day parades, which have been a highlight of national pride for the past 76 years. He noted that these parades not only draw the attention of local and international audiences but also symbolize the pride, honor, and professionalism of the Sri Lanka Army.
Encouraging all parade participants to perform with elegance and pride, he underscored the significance of the event as a platform to demonstrate the Army's dedication to the nation. “Marching in the Independence Day parade is a rare and prestigious opportunity for military personnel, and I urge you to give your best performance,” he stated.
Major General Lanka Amarapala also highlighted this year’s unique context, as the Independence Day celebrations align with the President’s initiative, "Clean Sri Lanka." He stressed the dual responsibility shouldered by the Army this year: honoring the nation’s history while contributing to a cleaner and more unified future.
The session was attended by senior military officers, including Adjutant General Major General K V N P Premaratne RSP USP psc, Director Personnel Administration Brigadier H T W Vidyananda RWP RSP USP, Brigadier General Staff of Security Forces Headquarters (West) Brigadier G S K Perera RSP ndc, as well as 125 Officers and 1,750 Other Ranks Participated form all the regiments belongs to the Sri Lanka Army.
The address set the tone for the Independence Day parade, reinforcing the Army's commitment to upholding national pride and its role in shaping the country’s future.
