The General Officer Commanding of the 61 Infantry Division, Brigadier KTP De Silva RSP ndu psc, made his first official visit to the 573 Infantry Brigade on 28th & 29th October 2024.
The visit commenced with the inspection to the construction site of the Brigade Headquarters of 573 Infantry Brigade at Ketapola. Upon arrival to the 573 Infantry Brigade Ketapola, the General Officer Commanding was warmly welcomed by Colonel D D G A Jayawardane USP psc, the Commander of 573 Infantry Brigade, having customarily accorded with a Guard Turnout at the main entrance.
Afterwards, General Officer Commanding witnessed a comprehensive briefing by the Commander 573 Infantry Brigade, followed by an inspection to the accommodation areas and construction site of the camp premises. During his visit, General Officer Commanding visited 20th Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry at Pitigala and he was warmly welcomed by the Commanding Officer of 20th Sri Lanka Light Infantry, having awarded him a Guard Turnout at the main entrance. Subsequently, General Officer Commanding addressed the troops of 20 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and conducted a field visit to the Neluwa detachment where he oversaw the Battalion’s readiness for the search and disaster relief operation and its equipment.
During the two day’s visit, General Officer Commanding, on 29 October 2024, visited the 2 (V) Gemunu Watch at Galle fort and its two rifle companies located at Walahandhuwa. In the time of his visit, he inspected the Armory, Ammo dump, accommodations of the troops,and other installations at Walahanduwa Detachment.
The visit was attended by the Commander of 573 Infantry Brigade, Senior Officers of 61 Infantry Division, Commanding Officers of 20th Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 2 (V) Gemunu Watch, officers, and other ranks.
