On 3 June 2024, the Ollukkuliya Reservoir in the Navaghattagama Regional Secretariat Division of the Puttalam district was breached due to heavy rains and adverse weather conditions. Under the supervision of the Brigade Commander of the 143 Infantry Brigade, 70 troops used sandbags to repair the breached embankment.
Furthermore, the troops from the 21 Battalion of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, under the command of the 142 Infantry Brigade of the 14 Infantry Division, successfully restored the Puwakpitiya Sri Sanghamitta Monastery, which was severely affected by flooding caused by the inclement weather conditions. This achievement stands as a testament to their resilience and skill.
