Major General W H K S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, the Chief of Staff, paid his maiden visit to the Security Forces Headquarters (West) in Panagoda on 19 March 2024, and the 6th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment honored him with a Guard Turnout at the entrance. Major General S W M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, Commander of the Security Forces (West), warmly received the visiting Chief of Staff upon his arrival.
The Chief of Staff addressed the troops attached to the Security Forces (West) and its subordinate establishments at the Army Gymnasium premises in Panagoda. During his address, he emphasized the current issues and tense social developments, focusing particularly on the role and tasks of the Army, maintenance of relations with the Police and other supportive elements, current security engagements, Civil-Military Cooperation, decision-making, practical approaches, assistance to the affected general public, maintenance of goodwill and restraint, correct perception of public sentiments, maintenance of Army dignity and discipline, and adoption of diplomacy at all levels.
Additionally, in his comprehensive briefing, he commended the troops for their exemplary duties in the Colombo region and the Western Province, promoting harmony and understanding with civilians in dense situations.
Towards the conclusion of the address, Major General S W M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, Commander of the Security Forces (West), presented a memento to the Chief of Staff as an appreciative gesture. The General Officer Commanding of the 61 Infantry Division, the General Officer Commanding of the 14 Infantry Division, Brigade Commanders, Centre Commandants, Commandant of Battalion Training School, Commanding Officers, and representatives of all Regimental Headquarters in the area of command were present to listen to the Chief of Staff. The event was concluded with a all ranks tea.
