Troops from the 2(V) Gemunu Watch of the 613 Infantry Brigade, under the command of the Security Force Headquarters - West, were conducted a rescue operations near the Teaching Hospital in Karapitiya on 9 December 2023. A mound of earth collapsed at a nearby construction site, trapping three workers.
Under the direction of Major General RAJN Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding of the 61 Infantry Division, the troops of 2(V) Gemunu Watch initiated a search and rescue operation immediately after the incident to rescue those trapped.
Unfortunately, one civilian has been reported dead, and two others were injured due to the earth collapse. The injured individuals have been swiftly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
