TROOPS SUCCESSFULLY MANAGE SOUTHERN EXPRESSWAY OPERATIONS AMID EMPLOYEE PROTEST

Employees of Road Development Authority conducted a protest abstaining from their duties at Expressways on 22 Nov 2023. As per the directions received from Commander SF HQ (West) overall responsibility of the function of the Southern Expressway came under the General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division.

Function of the Southern Expressway has been planned to be conducted under the Leadership of, General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division Major General R A J N Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc, and the Commander 612 Brigade, Brigadier M W S Millagala RWP RSP USP Hdmc psc and the Commander 613 Brigade Colonel K A D N R Kannangara RSP IG to take the control of 14 Entry and Exit points of Southern Expressway from Kottawa Interchange to Aparekka Interchange. Troops took over full Command and Control over the functions at Southern Expressway at around 0700 hrs.

During the day, Officers and Other Ranks who were employed at Interchanges were able to take the control and maintained the smooth function successfully at all Entry Exit points facilitating travelers to use the Expressway without hindering their routine works. Commander of The Army Lieutenant General H L V M Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and Commander, Security Forces (West) Major General W H K S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu also visited few locations to inspect the function and highly appreciated the performance of troops. End of the day troops handed over the control to the representatives of Road Development Authority at around 1900 hrs on 22 Nov 2023.
