Mindful of the calamity and damage to public life and property caused by the heavy rains, the Army personnel are continuing their evacuation, rescue, and relief services in Matara district.
Troops of 9th Battalion, Sinha Regiment and 3rd (Volunteer) Gemunu Watch are continuing their assistance in flood relief operations in evacuation, rescue and relief missions including preparing and distributing meals to those who have been trapped due to floods in Matara, Thihagoda Divisional Secretariat areas. Further troops engaged in transporting personnel in these areas and carried out Rescue Operations facilitating people to save their lives from this disaster situation in Galbada GN Division using boats, tractors and trucks.
The Commander of the Army paid a courtesy visit to the flood affected areas along with the Commander Security Forces West and other senior officers and discussed with government officials and authorities regarding the further assistance to be provided by the Sri Lanka Army. Further, the Commander of the Army has deeply gone into details and given necessary instructions for further scrutinizing of flood relief operations.
