The Sri Lankan military is tasked to respond to any natural or man-made disaster situation in this island nation, and among these, Fire-Fighting is one of the most hazardous situations where the military must intervene immediately. In view of the above, under the directions of the Army Headquarters and the guidance of the Commander Security Forces West, Major General U.D. Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Security Forces headquarters (West) conducted a "train the trainer" course on Fire Fighting in affiliation with the Fire Service Department Colombo from 1st September 2023 to 3rd September 2023 at the Engineer Division premises in Mattegoda.
The course which lasted for 3 days consisted with the participation of 10 Officers and 46 Other Rankers from all Security Forces Headquarters and Army Training Schools of the Sri Lanka Army. Thereby, the troops were educated in both theory and practical aspects of Basic Fire Fighting by Mr. Kamal Wilson MI Fire E(UK), GI Fire E (UK), FPT (Japan), SRU (Netherland), Chief Fire Officer of the Fire Service Department, Mr. Ranjan Kumara, and Mr. Rasika Abeywickrama who are the expertise at the Fire and Rescue Training Academy Colombo.
Moreover, this training initiative demonstrates the Sri Lankan military's commitment to ensuring its personnel are well-prepared to respond to any critical situation which can be particularly challenging and dangerous to safeguard lives and property.
