Major General R.A.J.N. Ranasinghe RSP USP, ndc, assumed duties as the 18th General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division of the Security Force (West) amid religious blessings at the 61 Infantry Division Headquarters premises in Galle, Boossa, on 16 August 2023.
The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and saluted in a Guard Turnout, presented by 2 (V) Battalion Gemunu Watch troops, as he entered the premises.
In his new office, the new General Officer Commanding was invited to sign an official document to mark the assumption of his duties amidst 'Seth Pirith' chanting.
Later on, in line with military formalities, the new General Officer Commanding planted a sapling, prior to the formal troop address for all Officers and Other Ranks where he expressed his vision for the Division in the future.
Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers of the 61 Division, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present during the day's event.
