On 6 August 2023, a potentially disastrous bushfire broke out in the Budugala forest area, prompting a rapid response from the 8 Battalion Gemunu Watch of the 611 Infantry Brigade, under the Security Forces (West).
Thereby, as per the directions of the Commander Security Forces (West), a group of Army personnel from the 8 Battalion Gemunu Watch promptly arrived at the scene, effectively extinguishing the fire as per the request made by the Divisional Secretariat of Kalthota. Their coordinated efforts prevented the fire from spreading further into the rest of the forest.
Meanwhile, the Army’s involvement in this emergency task is totally monitored by the Commanding Officer of 8 Battalion Gemunu (Watch).
